Quark 6.5 Exporting HTML
Ok, I know. I've read it. This feature gives less than stellar results (to be polite). I've got v4.1 quark docs, I open in 6.5, change from Print to Web, select all text, modify to NOT convert to image upon export, and all the text reflows. HTML page looks fine when exported as one big gif, but there's no text code, and looks jumbled when performing the above and exporting as HTML. Anything else I can try? A plugin? Surely someone has got this to work (Shirley?) The client just want HTML code they can cut and paste without having to worry to much about spacing. Anyone?

ok, I think I know why this happens now...I believe this is because certain text formatting attributes are available only for print layout, so upon designating the layout for web, the option to "convert to graphic" is the default. Within Quark, this still allows you to manipulate text attributes, but when you export HTML, you get graphics (obviously). Deselect the “convert to graphics” option, and you lose the text attributes....right? Still though, maybe there's a smarty out there who has a workaround? Anyone?

I tried doing this on a couple of occasions, got crap out, so I gave up on doing it out of Quark.
They lead you to believe it will work...
I just couldn't figure out why I would do all the formatting in Quark and then lose it all just to have to do it again...
Just another "feature" of Quark I guess
sorry,
no help,
David
PS. If you're into pain, try it in Q7!

Just for giggles, make a PDF, open that in Acrobat and then save as HTML. Never tried it but who knows...it might work.

I actually tried that. The results were pretty pathetic, though they did indeed produce giggles. Oh well. I'm running out of ideas to try, and ironically could have prbably reformatted the whole thing already, but dammit, that's not the point! This is supposed to be easy, so I'll continue to work very hard to find an lazy way out.

Laziness pays off ...well sort of. I stumbled across this little app while googling Quark HTML crap for the 50 billionth time. Its from http://www.terrymorse.com/ called GoClick. It basically operates as a “printer”, meaning you select it as your output device. There are a bunch of options regarding text and graphics and other features within the pagesetup in Quark (v 4.1 in this case). Results aren't perfect, but FAR better than Quack on its own. This particular app is Mac only I believe , and I'm sure it won't work on v 6 and up (perhaps v5). Also not sure if its even still available (demo can still be downloaded, but purchase links are disabled), but there’s a ClicktoConvert application for Windows that functions similarly. I don't have Quark on a PC, but I got 30 more days on the Mac demo.

I know I'm not much help but...
I just wish Quark would be bought up by Adobe and let there be peace in the graphics valley....

watch it Clod...don't let this take you over the deep end!!
Honestly, I went deep about a year ago to this day and although there were many contributing factors...the wackiness of using quark 4.x, switching over to oxs for quark 6 and all the bugs in there..then back to os9 to use quark 4.x with our inposition program...etc, etc were a major contributing factor...
