Quack 7 PDF
So, I've been (un)lucky enough to have been bestowed the task of evaluating Quack 7. I knew I shouldn't have been happy when the director asked me to be the "point person" for this project. We've been using Quark for years and in the last year implemented IDCS2 as well. I have to admit that I've come to prefer ID (so have our designers).... big surpsrise.
I really wanted to like Quark 7. I've been involved ever since the alpha testing phase so it's been kind of a journey. But, I should have known better. Sure, it has some nice options and features but as I've come to expect, nothing really works right. I could complain endless but I"ll leave it alone for now.
So, onto the issue. I mimmicked a file we have built in ID.... built it in Q7. Looks perty and all but our RIP (nexus 7.5.... in the process of updating to 8.2) can't handle the native transparencies so I opted to try the PDF route since it works so nicely with our ID files. And, as is par for the course, the PDFs are junk thus far.
Here's the issue. In the center of the page there are two gradients. Once is vertical and makes up the body of the doc. There is also a horizontal gradient that runs on top of the vertical one... no transparencies... nothing special at all. Just plain old gradients. Regardless of how I make the PDF (with and without flattening and as a PDF/x), not only does it take absolutely miserably long to make the PDF, but blocks of the larger, vertical gradient are showing up on top of the horizontal gradient. I can't think of any solution to this within Quark.... anyone have any ideas? Next I'll try distiller.....
