PC Quark font embedding

PC running windows 2000 - has quark 4.1 and 6.5 loaded - ATM font management (but the same set of fonts are permanently used). Print to a PS rip with 4.1 everything OK. print same document to same printer with 6.5 and some of the fonts are not embedded in the PS e.g. Helv Medium is embedded but not Helv Bold. Quark does not generate any 'font missing' errors or similar either when opening or printing the file - anyone have any ideas??

Re: PC Quark font embedding

Two things...

Open up your Xtension Manager in Q 6.5 and make sure you don't
have the Font Silencer Xtension, or if you do disable it.

An old trick with Q 4.1 on PC that I've used before is to Export
your page out as an .eps file, then open it in Illustrator 10 and
convert to Outlines. Save it out as an Illy .eps then impose it. Illy
always seems to parse it (at least I haven't seen one fail yet).
Not so fun if the document has a lot of pages though.

Is there some reason you can't print it from Q 4.1 (besides the lack
of PS Level 3 support)?

PC Quark font embedding

thanks for the suggestions - i dont'a have that xtn loaded - on further experimentation it seems that it's only trutype fonts that are a problem. A workaround is to distill a PS file (I guess that distiller then embeds the missing fonts since it's running on the same workstation where the fonts and quark are loaded). I can then print the PDF successfully. Still, frustrating though.
