Maxpower, please explain what "apple do way too much chopping and changing." means for the people here who speak english. If your saying Macs are overpriced just remember, you get what you pay for. I have 7 Macs the oldest one a Mac II FX is 14 years old now and still running without issues. I wonder what the life span of the average windows box is? Not long I'd guess, as I see them out to the curb all the time, funny I've never seen a Mac on the curb for garbage pick-up, I wonder why?

well, they keep changing there hardware and everybody has to buy the software again, with pcs this has never been a problem. The reason i think you see so many pcs on the kerb is because they are cheap to upgrade and people cant be bothered trying to sell there old boxes, and mac users are so in love with there pretty looking computers they cant bring themselves to throw them away even if they are out of date pieces of crap.
I have mac and pc here in our shop, we try and use pc whereever possible.

I think what you are trying to say is that the Macintosh is continuing to evolve to a better computing experience.
I will agree that most Mac users (myself included) tend to get a little fanatical about their computers, but I have been in prepress for nearly 20 years so I was actually around to see the color Mac II arrive and influence the industry. PCs tend to have their place in the industry, but they were not the catalyst of change from darkrooms to digital that Macs were.
What kind of Macs do you have in your shop? (Model and OS).
Please try not to be so judgemental and closed-minded, you really limit yourself from all that is beautiful in this world.

Most ridiculous thing I ever heard. I've learned over the years that most Mac bashers are truly ignorant about the ease and elegance of the OS. And the reason you see so many PC's at the curb is because about 5 minutes after you hook one up to the internet it gets some sort of HD eating virus.

Or it could be that PC's are so cheaply built and become pretty much useless after a couple of years. I've never known a PC user that didn't have to buy a new computer every couple of years just to be able to run current software.
Also, unlike my PC friends and family, I haven't had to spend big bucks on software and support to fix software, hardware and virus problems.
My 6 year old G4 still runs all the current sofware, still plays movies, still lets me edit movies and burn DVD's and runs the Adobe CS apps without any problems. I don't know anyone with a PC that old, so I can't say for sure if one would be able to do all that - but I seriously doubt it.

Amen!
I need something to convert my Publisher files into something
usable. Then it's over to the Mac where the real job is done. A
PC is just a piece of support equipment for my Mac workflow.
The system requirements for the new Windows OS, Vista/Longtooth
or whatever it ends up being called when it ships, will force a new
round of PC's on the curb. OS X runs perfectly on my Mac that's
4-5 years old. That's a far better value in my opinion.

I guess it'd be best to still be working on a 601e chip instead of a G5 or intel chip.
It's nice that all Windows machines come with a standard hardware and never has compatibility issues. I should buy more of them.
I also like working 5 times longer on a Windows Quark file than I do on a Mac Quark file. Helps fill my day up.
