Strange Font Substitution

Morning All,

We had a Quark 6.5 document in today from a client. The document is supposed to use Gill Sans, but if it is opened up without activating the clients version of Gill Sans, the document opens but displays Helvetica. In the Font usage there is no entry for Gill Sans being missing. If we activate the clients version of Gill Sans the document displays correctly.

Does anybody have any ideas why the font doesn't show as missing and automatically gets changed for Helvetica?

Many Thanks in advance.

I experienced this a few months ago with one of my lads. It turned out to be a damaged plist file.

Firstly though make sure your preferences are set correctly in the Font Mapping section it's possible that the font warning has been switched on.

If that isn't it, then go to your Home Folder / Library / Preferences / com.quark.QuarkXPress.plist and throw this file away.

Restart Quark and you should be OK. I'm assuming you're using a Mac and not using Quark 7 beta

I threw away the .plist as suggested, and it resolved the problem.

Thanks once again Jezza
