Are spot colours in Quark retained in pdf?

I've just made a pdf from Quark and elements created in Quark with spot colour have retained their spot colour in my pdf, however spot colours in an eps imported into Quark have converted to process in the pdf. Is this a quirk of Quark? Or am I doing something wrong?

As far as I know the problem lies within Acrobat. Acrobat converts spot colors to cmyk. The only way that I know of is to save to a pdf as separations. This will give you one page as color A and another as color B.

I was told that Acrobat 6 addresses this problem, but haven't tried it as of yet.

Acrobat 6 does indeed fix many issues regarding spot colors. I would suggest getting up to speed with that. The thing is you need to distill or print to PDF with an Acrobat 6 compatible joboptions, as far as I know.

I've had no problems with imported spot color EPS files in Quark 6. Postscript is generated via "Export as PDF" set for .ps output, then processed w/Distiller 6. Spot colors are preserved perfectly. We use a customized version of the PDF/X1a job options that ship with Distiller 6.

Thanks guys for your input. I was using Quark 4 and Distiller 5. This must be a known issue (to all except me). Thing is I rarely use Quark these days, mostly ID.
