Updated Images go Missing

One of our operators has had a problem with a couple of jobs, where he has re-linked missing images, postscripted the file and found that the images have printed low res. When he has gone back to the picture usage the status has reverted to missing. This seems to be with Quark 4 documents opened in Quark 5 in Classic Mode.

He has tried updating the images, re-saving the document, quitting quark and then re-opening the document. Once again the images show as missing.

Has anybody heard of any known problems like this and is there anything that can be done to resolve it?

Many thanks in advance.

Are the hi-rez images hosted locally or on a server? Possible resource fork issue between OSX and your server? If so maybe copy your images to the local disk and re-link for output?

The images are stored on our Xserve, but so are all our other jobs. Will try as you suggested and copy the whole job on to the local disk to see if it makes any difference.

I have no idea if this is related, but I thought I'd share:
I have a document I created myself in Quark 5. It's a saddlestitch, 36 page piece with lots of linked graphics and images. No OPI is being used. I recently upgraded to Quark 6. When I opened the document in 6, some of the images linked to the wrong graphics in the same folder and reported the images 'Modified'. All of my images had unique names with no funky characters. Had to manually re-import the effected images.

Yeah I think so too...and the implications for future work coming in and using Quark 6 is unnerving.

About your issue - is it possible there's a rights issue with your account in Classic mode on the server? If there is, copying the whole job to your local machine as schmitteo suggested would fix that.
I've had issues with Quark 5 trying to use OPI even though I turned it off in the Usage list...turning OPI off altogether with the Xtensions manager then rebooting Quark might be something to try (if you don't already have it disabled).

I am pretty sure it isn't a rights issue, as most jobs don't have a problem, running them in the same way. I have checked the OPI xtension and it is inactive. Will probably have a go tomorrow now at running the job of the Macs hard disk. Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated. Its not a BIG problem at the moment, I'd just like to get to the bottom of it.

I think the first thing I would do is trash QuarkXPress' prefs and reopen the document, at first using the document settings. See if that works.
