Font Dummy Button Substitution Help

Just got a new g5 workstation and alot of our old files use the Quark dummy buttons (Bold and Italic) for the fonts. So for example, in font usuage it'll say Helvetica and under "more info" it will show it's using Helvetica Bold. Problem is, when I go to print it uses Helvetica. Could someone help me out? Thanks!

Sure...
Use the font "Helvetica Bold" rather than "Helvetica" and making it bold.
now you see why everyone b*tches about those damn buttons.

so the font has been fake styled to bold and it's not printing out bolded?
What are you printing to?
printer... RIP... or?

Best thing is to load the real bold font and then substitute it for the fake bold font (and remember to uncheck the fake bold button).

Printers and RIP. Thing is, before I reinstalled Quark on the new machine it substituted everything fine. When I go into usage>fonts>more information it shows it will use the correct font but doesn't. (For example: Futura will use Futura Oblique.) Is there something in preferences i'm missing as far as font substitution goes? We have thousands of Quark files set like this that printed fine previously.

What are you using for font management?
You may have a font conflict on that Mac.
Several things to try:
1. Launch Font Book and see if there are any dots next to any fonts (indicating font conflicts). If you see any, go to the edit menu and drag down to "Resolve Duplicates".
2. Have you cleaned your Font caches?
3. Delete the Jaws folder from inside the Quark app folder.
4. Choose File > Find, and do one of the following:
-- In Mac OS 9.x or Mac OS X v10.1.x, click the hard drive icon at the top of the Sherlock window, type Adobefnt in the text box, and then click the magnifying glass.
-- In Mac OS X v10.2.x or 10.3.x, choose Local Disks from the Search In menu, type Adobefnt in the text box beside File Name Is, and then click Search.
-- Select the file, and choose File > Move to Trash.

We're using Suitcase 11.0.4 on OS X 10.4.3
Tried deleting the JAWS folder (what is that for anyways?) and cleaning the font cache to no avail. When I do a search for Adobefnt I get 588 results. :?
What should I do w/all of them?

Thanks for all the help!

Trash all the .lst files, leave the .db files. (just be sure to empty the trash)

Jaws is Quarks PDF creator. There is a TTfont folder in it that can build up a collection of fonts that needs to be purged every now and again. Deleting the Jaws folder does that and it will regenerate itself upon restarting Quark.

We have had trouble using Suitcase 11.0.4 on our Tiger (10.4) Mac. We have gone to using the new Suitcase Fusion and it seems to be working a little better. The version of Suitcase you are using was made before Tiger was released so it doesn't play too well. You may need to upgrade.
