text trapping

Quark 6.0
Apogee

Trying to trap Red text (mag and yellow) to black background.

InRip trapping: OFF
Application trapping: Honor

Using Quark trapping:
background set to knockout
type set to .144 pt

Result is the red traps correctly, but the black also traps (chokes).
I want the black to knockout.

Any Ideas? I have come up with a work around, but I should be able to do this.

the red should spread into the black, and the black should stay same size.
How do you have the trap preferences set?



I don't use quark trapping, so this is the default setting, you may want to try changing these. In the old days, process trapping gave us weird results.

Thats what I mean is for the black to stay the same...not to knockout.
My prefs are the same as yours. I will try changing process trapping

Turn process trapping off. That should be the default but you know Quack.

I would set AUTO& Indeterminate to 0 in your preferences and then
select the red text and open SHOW TRAP INFO window(under windows)
set TEXT to custom .36 which =.005 is what we usuall use.
Also,VERY IMPORTANT !!!YOU MUST PRINT SEPARATIONS for Quark trapping to work !

Does anybody REALLY use Quark trapping?
Everywhere I've worked, we've made sure it's ignored to ensure the monkeys who supply us documents don't tinker and mess things up.

Most of my Quack jobs rip from Trapwise but I still check trap settings to be sure morons didn't screw with trap settings and set ko's to overprint. Occasionally I'll rip simple jobs with just text to trap from Quack but thats a rare job here.
