wordzsmith, FYI PowerRipX drivers do an extremely admirable job of reproducing CMYK color values pretty accurately from Epson printers. And they (the company) offer drivers for even reel cheep Epsons. Heck I've my cheap-o 4-color C60 printing passable preliminary CMYK color proofs. The cost is kind of steep. But getting decent proofs from my lowly inkjet has helped me make better use of color and has also helped me have a better expectation of the actual final printed piece. If you have access to an Epson, you can download a trial version of the driver you need. The trial version will print a big X across the printed page until you buy and register the product.

No, I promise I don't work for them. I just think thier product has value.

The end

wolfy,

looked at their product and was impressed by their support, even for quark 6.

Went to download the demo for my canon i9100 and it said that power rip 2000 doesn't work with OSX 10.2.8

Power Rip X does work with the OSX 10.2.8 but doesn't work with the canon ... yet. So if we want Power Rip X we have to get an epson so we are looking into acquiring an epson 2200 and then all things should hopefully be compatible and give me a good idea of how my postscript file will eventually print out.

the search continues....

I wonder if turning on Custom Bleeds in the Extensions Manager of Quark will make a difference (I don't know that it will, all that allows is asymmetrical bleeds).
FYI - You can download a host of PPDs from Adobe and use them in OSX, you don't need to have the actual device to create device-driven postscript.

I think the problem is that you have the custom bleeds extension turned on. That would gray out the bleed amount box in the first tab of the print menu and put the bleed info in a separate tab. Try deactivating the custom bleed extension and restarting Quark. I don't think the issue has anything to do with having a Postscript printer. Good luck.

Oooh, yeah good call. If the bleeds button in setup (where you used to find it) is gray, look on top of the print dialogue and see if there's a tab 'Bleed'. If there is, Custom Bleeds is on. You can either use the Custom Bleed tab itself and turn it to symmetric (or asymmetric if you wish) or you can do what the previous poster suggested - turn off custom bleeds in the xtension manager.

on a related issue

Can anyone tell me how to specify bleed when setting up a print style? used to be able to do it but it seems quark 6 eliminated this.

Have you disabled the Custom Bleed XT?
