Placing PDF 1.5's into Quark 6.1

What is going on here? I'm trying to place a pdf into quark 6.1 made from Distiller 6.0.2 and it tells me it an unrecognized version? I've got the newest pdf import extension loaded up in quark also. Not sure whats going on here? Anyone have any ideas?

Think about this, Quark 6 is just a ported version of Quark 5, can Quark 5 import Acrobat 6 files? No. Optimize(under advanced) in Acrobat 6 for Acrobat 5 compatibility and your go to go.

Gotcha

Thanks a ton, I'll do that then. Man I used to just love Quark 4.11. Can't say i'm as happy now with Quark 6 and I am with say Indesign CS. Been telling my customers to switch if they can.

I've been getting about 60% Quark 6 files now. For the most part it's the same old, same old, but strange things can and do happen. Today the ruler turned to white on the top between 3 and 6 " on an 8 1/2" page. When I enlarged the page size the ruler now read from 0 to 3" then 0 again to 51/2". A resize to 100% fixed it and I couldn't get it to happen again. I wish I'd taken a screen shot.

I find Quark 6 unreliable. I've had a couple jobs now that will just lose placed images when updating them. It's to the point now that I really don't trust it.

Yes, it's to the point where I don't trust any postscript coming out of Quark 6. I find i've been saving back to Quark 4.11 when I can and using it instead. My boss is having similar problems. Not sure if Quark will ever be as good as it used to be. To bad.

Quark and The twirling rainbow

I began using Quark 6.1 with my old G4 using Jag. I felt the growing pains of the change in the way of many bugs. I began to look at the Creative Suite for solace. InDesign is showing it's Adobe face and beginning to be a wonderful thing. I mean drag and drop a graphic....how cool is that. Why the hell doesn't Quark see the light? Anyway...I now have a new G5 2.O GHZ dual processor...yeah yeah I know....I don't understand it either........my owner must have one the lottery. Well, the first few days were like 5th grade......playing Oregon Trail on my Apple IIC...but then the bugs rejoined my party and the incescent twirling umbrella began to show up when I seemingly worked Quark too fast. Please patch Quark....or I may help convince our prepress staff to turn to the darkside...or is it the lightside.

Oh yeah

Oh and by the way.....I have had no problem with export as PDF from Quark though. Overiding Distillers commands......I have had solid PDF almost always. I have also had no problems with InDesign export to PDF....for all applications from proof to press.
