Something Strange this way comes

Here's the set up:
OS 9.2.2
Harlequin RIP 5.1
Quark 4.1.1

Get a reorder for an envelope (#10) that we created in Quark several years ago for this customer. The original set up was done as black on white. The job prints PMS 342 green so this time I decided to put the PMS color in the color pallet and change the text and rules to the proper color. The file contains a 1pt rule that is "Thick and Thin".

The previous sample appears correct but when I RIPed the file this time the pressman came to me and said why is this rule solid?

I tried 3 times to RIP it properly to no avail. I finally went back to the file and changed the color back to black and Viola!! the rules showed up Thick and Thin again.

So, explain to me how changing a rule from black to PMS will make the RIP see it as a solid rule? 8O 8O :?

Check your quark trapping...

when it's set to green, it's probably set to spread, black = overprint.

only thing I can think of

I had a similar problem, are you working in a PDF workflow with pitstop and pitstop server?

Hey Spark - did you check it out under a loop to see if the pressmen just smashed the hell out of the blanket. Other than that I'd go with Cory's post.
