DeviceN issues

Hi Everyone,

I've only been using Quark 6.1 for a short period of time, so be patient with me!

So I have these colorized tifs that require me to print .ps with DeviceN. However, I also have knockout white type in boxes of the PMS. When I distill my .ps, the pdf looks fine. The white type reads as 0%cmyk. However, at the rip, it completely disappears. If I save the same file as composite cmyk, the type and the spot colors rip fine, but the colorized tiffs convert to cmyk. Is there any way to do this in Quark 6.1 without changing the tiff's to eps' or changing the 'white' type to 0% of a spot color? Does DeviceN strip out any/all cmyk info? Saving back to Q5 works fine with the Creo extensions for tifs. Unfortunately since Quark claims this issue is resolved, Creo hasn't updated the Xtension to Q6.

Suggestions?

Scott

Scott, the extention HAS BEEN updated for Quark 6.1 and Panther. Creo just hasn't gotten around to telling anyone. Go to Creo's site/downloads/Trapwise and it's there (Creo PXT 4.0.xnt). It works great just the fix PMS colors doesn't work, but did it ever? If you have problems getting it post back and I'll email it to ya'.

Hey al,

Isn't the PXT extension for the 'export for prepress'?

There was another Xtension for the colorized tiff issue that hasn't been updated.

Ya' but the PXT exstension works. They have a tech document about the Colorized .tiff issue but I don't think it works. Do a knowledgebase search on Creo's site for it.

I'll do that, thanks al. Are you using it on the pc or the mac? If you're using it on the pc, how do you set up the font information to recognize loaded fonts in atm? I have to manually enter the path to the font folders for each individual job. Real annoying. Plus I have a lot of crashed with that Xtension on the pc. I don't have this problem on the Mac.

One small, quick thing to check. Make sure the white type is set to knockout in Quark's own trapping dialogue (assuming type is set up in Quark). When I run to my Agfa Apogee rip I need to set Quark's trapping to knock out all.

Yea, that was my first thought that the white type was overprinting. It wasn't, but I change the trap setting to knockout all anyway just to give me some peace of mind (if that actually exists in this business) 8O
