placing pdf's

Everytime I try to place a pdf into my Quark doc. It crashes. I know the pdf's are clean. It doesn't matter if I create them or get them from customers.
Any ideas...

A little more info might help (OS/quark version)

if you are on Quark 4, have you updated the quark PDF import filter?

you can snag it over at quark.com

I am running OS 10.8.2 and using Quark 6.1.
When I make my own PDF's to try, I first postscript them the distill them with Acrobat 6. My Quark 5 works great. I love it, Quark 6.1 however, I am still a little leary.

I have that problem w/Q4.1 in OS9 (Ithink you meant to say OS 10.2.8? Jaguar) any PDF from any source crashes Quark on my set up.
I was hoping this was resolved in OS X and Q 6.x guess not

Quark has a pdf updater patch available on their website to fix this issue (although I'm not sure if it actually does fix the prob.)
