Hyphenation changing from document to document

Quark has to be the most unreliable, unpredictable program I have ever used(of course Publisher and Word still firmly hold these titles for me).

When I open our clients Quark file(no, I do not know what version) into our Quark 7, text looks and flows exactly as it should. Client even provided a hard copy sample for us to proof against. For this project, all Hyphenation settings were turned off, there were no hyphens anywhere.

BUT

When we copy and paste the pages into a new document, all the H&J settings change to the default Quark settings, completely altering all text flow within the document. H&Js change to "standard" as opposed to what they were set at which was "none." I have done some digging as to why/how this happens and I've dug even deeper to understand how to ensure this doesn't happen any more, but I'm not able to find anything.

Am I the only one having this issue, or does someone out there have a solution to help me?

THANK YOU ALL!!

have you tried turning off hyphenation in the quark 7 document before pasting the text.

Still does it.

Strange, even after I paste the document and try to turn off H&Js, it does not register the change and all the hyphens are still there.

aaaaahh...Quark

if you save the text as Xpress tags then import into new document might be a way round it

OK here's where I'm at:

In the new document, after I copy and paste from the original document, I go under Style/Leading/ and change Hyphenation to none...it works.

So that solves one problem. But what I want to know is why is it changing in the first place? Why does the setting for Hyphenation change from one document to another?

i beleive it is a document setting, not an application one. meaning setting it for one document wont set it for all douments. IF I remember quark correctly, you have to set the preference without a document open(in the prefrences, not like you are working on type at the moment), then all new documents will have that setting....but it has been awhile since I fooled with quack.

Mikie you're the lucky winner on this one!

It works.

But I'm still pissed that this type of thing happens. I don't want my document changing without me making the changes....and if the piece of crap program does alter my file you'd think I'd get some kind of warning!

Wow, once again Quark has made my day absolute hell. Why would anyone continue to use this crap?

Thanks again Mikie!
