Quark Issues (imagine that)

This is my first post here, been lurking for a few days though. Small town Idaho hoping someone here can straighten me out. When sending something to film (yeah, yeah, film.) out of Quark at 150/2540, the product coming off the press is really muddy (looks like maybe massive dot gain?). Problem has just started since I got a new computer (PC). If I export it as a pdf, place it into indy and output it (150/2540), it works fine. Profile problem? It doesn't give me errors in quark, seems to work the same as on my old machine, but looks absolutely horrible.

Any help would be appreciated.

What version of Quack and OS are you running? Could be a PPD issue or if it's Quack 7 a color management issue.

Have you downloaded the latest version of the printer driver? What printer are you
using when you create the pdf from Quark?

i use a driver i found online to send to film and to create pdfs. It was the only driver I could find that worked, all the rest I found made the film moire. When I create the pdf and send it from indesign it works fine though.

Assuming it's not the driver...
A couple of quick checks in the Quark print dialogue:
Under Options:
Output = Normal
Data = Binary
Full Res Tif is selected

and under OPI, OPI off

OK, now i'm really confused. I opened the business card file i am fighting to check the settings that b2p recommended (thanks btw) and they were all set the same except for the data was set to ASCII, i've never had to change that before, could that setting have been saved in my old machine? One more thing, i've had that f-ing file open 20 times in the past three days and this last time it gives me this error: Panther Plus_VR_IR Printer Description File Missing. that doesn't sound good.

The ASCII setting would be document specific, not user based.

I'd delete the printer then recreate it. If it's the printer description you may need
to find another one that isn't corrupted (assuming that's what it is).
Or just output it from InDesign, but I don't know if that'll screw up your workflow.
