Berthold Releases Formata and Imago in OpenType ProPlus with Cyrillic and Greek

(Press Release)
Monday, July 16, 2007

Berthold announces the release of two new OpenType Pro Plus collections: FORMATA and IMAGO are available in CFF PostScript flavored OpenType with Cyrillic and Greek support for all fonts in the collection as well as language support for Central European, Baltic and Turkish.

The FORMATA and IMAGO collections are two of the most innovative and popular sans serifs from the 20th Century. By expanding these collections into OpenType ProPlus, Berthold continues to modernize the Berthold Exklusiv Collection with expanded glyph sets containing true small caps for all languages, old-style figures, prebuilt fractions plus the facility to publish multilingual documents in such languages as Polish, Greek and Russian.

Berthold first released FORMATA, designed by Bernd Moellenstaedt, in 1984. Instead of linear severity common to many sans serifs, Formata offers curved strokes and interesting details that are subtle in smaller sizes but distinguishable in larger sizes, thus, appropriate for both text and display. Formata is available in normal and condensed widths with an extensive weight range.

Berthold first released IMAGO, designed by Guenter Gerhard Lange, in 1982. Lange crafted a new sans serif clearly distinguishable from other sans. Particular attention was given to the expression of each individual character and great care was taken to keep them open and clear even in the smallest of sizes and boldest of weights. Under the direction of G.G. Lange, bold and bold italic weights were added in 2000, making Imago an extremely well balanced family with universal applicability.

Building on its strong heritage, Berthold Types, successor to the highly regarded H. Berthold type foundry, looks back onto a history of 149 years of distinguished type design. Guenter Gerhard Lange, along with Bernd Moellenstaedt and Dieter Hofrichter, form the core of Berthold's 'Type Atelier' located in Germany to provide an indispensable element in the continued development of the Berthold Exklusiv typefaces.
