Job built in Photoshop CS2

We have a clients file that was built in PS CS2.
It has many layers and tons of effects in it.

Is there any way to export this file into either Illy or indesign , keeping the files editability so we can correct bleeds / colours / text / and add our dieline?

everything I have tried has ended up flatttening the layers and im left with something which either I cannot edit or just will not open. :X

Thanks

Smile Job built in Photoshop CS2

Place Photoshop psd file right in Indesign without changing anything, Indesign will handle transparencies. Try it it, should work.

That's one of the features I love the most about InDesign. It used to be where you'd have to keep two files (layered and flattened). Now you just use the PSD. I do it all of the time.

I don't understand why you can't correct everything that needs correcting in Photoshop, with the exception of placing the dieline. I would fix everything in Photoshop, save a copy (so you have the customer's original file unmolested in case you need to go back to it), place the corrected copy in InDesign, then add your dieline on top as a separate spot color.

the reason i donot correct this in Photoshop is I have very little Photoshop experience.

My knowledge is : Cloning and using levels and Very minor colour correction.
These are the ONLY 3 things we learned in college about Photoshop (sadly)
We did 3 classes a week 2-5hrs long.. all cloning...

That and the file has tons of layers with tons of effects and shadows ect.
[ ie: there is a long strip of grass running along the front panel, its broken into about 17 layers - each with a drop shadow behind the part of grass...
Looks like the artist placed a tiny patch of grass over and over and applied the ds to each.. stuff like that is going on with the file.]
I would not want to mess with it.

I just has the artist rebuild it in Freehand (as this is all she has to work with)
She hates me now.
I would be pissed too.

Maybe I'm not quite understanding your scenario, but why does the artist need to rebuild it in Freehand? If you are not comfortable fixing the problems yourself in Photoshop, surely you could just tell her what the problems are and let her just tweak the Photoshop file rather than recreating the file in Freehand?

I'm not trying to be smart with what I'm about to say, but in all seriousness the best way to learn Photoshop is to jump in and you are forced to find solutions in order to make it work. In this business, you have to know Photoshop, and everyone here is willing to help you as long as you try to help yourself.

I do not know why she didnt fix the file in Photoshop...

Only thing I can think of is someone else built it and shes not comfortable using Photoshop??

I agree with you.
Jump in, see what Photoshop can do / read a book or 3 about it.

Huh? You just said you had the artist rebuild it in Freehand because that's all she has and now she hates you. How did she originally do it in Photoshop if all she has is Freehand? You've confused me.

Seriously, either you need to open it in Photoshop and correct bleeds / colours / text / and then place it into InDesign to place your dieline or if you can't correct in Photoshop have the person that did it originally to fix it in Photoshop. Re-creating it in Freehand is so far out into left field I'm flabbergasted anyone would consider it.

Hi Joe,

I have no idea If SHE did the job originally or it was handed to her after the fact. ( i believe her boss did the orig )
I spoke with her on the phone, and she said they have FH and PS there. ( I believe she works in FH only )

I told her the bleeds needed to be corrected ect.
but I did not tell her she had to re build it in FH.

She asked me how to export to FH:

"is there was an easy was to export the photoshop file into FH "
I told her i have NO idea, ive never used FH and that we take her FH files and open them in Illy.

She then re created it in FH uploaded it to our ftp and went on VAC.

If its an insane thing to ask then i feel like an asshole (and maybe rightfully so)
but Im doing as I was told (by the Lead)
