Photoshop vs. Photoshop Extended

Ok, we are about to upgrade to CS3.

Im doing my research, I see there is now a Photoshop, and a Photoshop Extended.

If we just upgrade to the normal Photoshop, that we printers have been using for years, and some "designer" finds a nifty new filter or doo-dad in his/her copy of Photoshop Extended, will Photoshop be able to open a Photoshop Extended file??

Just wondering is all.

Thanks all.

Unique to, or enhanced for, Photoshop CS3 Extended:

* 3D compositing and texture editing
* Movie Paint
* 2D and 3D measurement tools
* Enhanced Vanishing Point with 3D support
* Enhanced 32-bit HDR support

I think the answer to your question is no, you cannot open Extended docs in regular Photoshop, but, if you have customers doing 3D stuff for print, then I'd imagine you'd probably really want a copy of Extended.

I was just reading about the differences last night. Most of the stuff in extended is geared toward architects, doctors and researchers (not sure what the "stuff" is) but according to Adobe it was developed for these fields. For graphic designers the addition of the 3D tools is the hook.

So I wonder if you get the "Design Edition" if you can place a Photoshop Extended file (like the 3D stuff) in the Design Edition of InDesign? Or do you need the Premium Edition of InDesign to place the Photoshop extended files into? This could be a fustercluck in the making.

Yes but there could be an InDesign import filter for the new Photoshop Extended files that is only included with the suite that has Photsoshop Extended (now to be known as P-SEx :lol: )

Probably not but nothing would surprise me at this point. :?
