Cannot open PS tiff file

I'm getting the message "cannot complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop".

This is a new one for me, I can open it in Preview fine and in Graphic Converter, unfortunately GC flattens the layers and I need them editable. It was created in CS2 I've tried CS also with no luck.

So the file appears to be OK just PS won't open it any ideas?

Thanks

Saw this on Adobe's photoshop forum. Were you working over a network when this happened? Fixes include opening in Photoshop 6 or older and resaving. Or opening in Imageready or Illustrator and resaving.

Yes over a network.

sigh..time to recompose.

I have a couple of older versions of PS at home maybe I'll give them a go before re-doing it.

Never work over a network. Adobe even has tech notes on it.

Well after 17 years I'm afraid its to late

I've never had a problem before this. Frankly I find the whole thing totally unacceptable, I mean maybe we should go back to syquest and zip drives.

That being said I guess I'll keep on rolling the dice.

Now wheres my old optical drive?

While I've always had a server I've never worked directly off it. I copy whatever I need of it and work off the workstation and when I'm done I copy the file to the server. Doing such I've never had any file issues. But I hear ya since this move to OSX networking is the pits.

You really should not have to do all of that copying to and from your server, it uses time and creates a file management issue. It should "serve" files over the network.

I do what Adobe suggests I do borntoprint, you can do what you want to but, don't come crying for answers when you can't open a file.
BTW did you read the links I provided?

Sorry If I sounded like i was crying?

It just seems to me that working off local workstations is just asking for an old file to get used, I've seen it happen many times where rather than copy a sent in job to the server they go to their desktop make a proof send it out and guess what? either night shift can't find the file to go to press or the wrong file (older version) gets printed.

I guess I need to figure out how the hell version Cue works.
