Why can't I embed a profile on a Monotone image?

I am saving some monotone images and noticed that I do not have the option of embeddding a profile (CS2). This is true for duotones, tritones, and quadtones.

I can't figure out why the Embed Profile box is not active. There are several different dot gain chocies for spot channels so I would think I would have the option to tag my file with one.

Any insight?

Photoshop doesn't support embedding ICC profile to mono/duo/tri/quadtone images as these are defined as spots channels (even if you're only using process inks).Typical ICC profiles are utilizing process color look up tables. Since a duotone or quadtone can use inks other than process, embedding a profile isn't practical or logical. Now if Photoshop fully support N-color profiles, that would perhaps be a different story, but for now its CMYK only for ICC within Photoshop
