PhotoShop Multi-Channels for spot colors + CMYK

Hi, all;
I wish find the best method to create or fix a PhotoShop file that I would like to contain a CMYK image, and a fifth color, such as a spot PMS, or spot Varnish. I understand that Multi-Channel DCS 2.0 files should be able to accomplish this, but I have not yet figured out the correct method to do this. An example would be that I am provided a PhotoShop file that has CMYK on the default layer, and a spot color (for a spot varnish, lets say). I assume that the spot color would have to be converted to a fifth channel, but I am not sure how to accomplish this (yet).

Thanks for any advice on this task!

You could also save a layered PSD - the default layer as you say with the CMYK and another layer with your spot plate. Be sure to check the box "Spot Colors" when saving the PSD. If need be you can also use the "Object Layer Options" in InDesign. {Under the Object drop down menu} It will allow you to toggle the visibility of layered PSD's in InDesign. Can be very helpful at times...
Hope this helps.

Multi-Channel PSD files, thanks!

Hey, thanks so much for the ideas, and response. I did get this to work at home, but I will try to create a file to RIP at work. I will have some more questions Im sure, but thanks for pointing me in the right directions
