I need to be able to resize the document by objects, and it is alot easier to do that in illustrator.

Why not use the Freehand transform tool under Edit? If you hold down the shift key with the freehand transform tool you can scale proportionately.

maybe try saving each photoshop layer as a serperate psd file and linking in Illy?

this way you will have the "elements of the layers" as individual scaleable items

That is what I am in the process of doing but there are 70+ layers that were grouped. Don't you love designers that think what works on the web will work in print.

ok i cant see the artwork so my next comments may be waaaaaaay off but?

maybe a compromise then?merge some photoshop layers that can stay together and do it that way. surely you dont need 70+ layers in the design and need to get them all into illy as seperate editable items.? that'd be plain crazy :? i'd look at advising the designers to do only what is necessary in photoshop. type for example may not be really necesssary in photoshop?

I'm a big believer in simplyfying stuff?discarding stuff i dont need, and making the stuff i need as simple and usable, flexible and workable as possible.

there's always more than one way to skin the cat?but designers sshould be responsible for supplying stuff how you want it.

if you bought a car you'd have the choice of delivery spec wouldnt ya? put the pressure on the designers maybe

Thats the huge issue is that this file is 3 yrs old and I can't put pressure on the designer because of that. They just told me that need it to print. I have already got it into illustrator because it would not rip out of photoshop while retaining the spot colors or just turning to gray. I hope that it will work like I have it now. Thanks for all the help.

I made a PS file with vector layers, folders, type, image layers and saved it as .PSD

When you open it in Illu, you get asked if yu want to keep it in layers. Than you have all the vector layers as paths, the type as type and the folders stay as they are. even the multiply function is still on.

The only problem i had with adjustment layers. every thing under the adjustment layer gets put on one layer.

And if it is a big file it takes a llong time.

Is that what you tired to do?

Cheers, Dimitri

The problem is that everything came out as CT except for the die line, so that is the only thing that would convert to paths.
