I would try a bunch of stuff before starting over, but I would be willing to bet that you will have to start over.

If you are double clicking on the file, try something else by going into Photoshop first and then selecting the "Open" command, navigate to your file and try to open it from there.

If that doesn't work, try placing it into InDesign. If it places in, then you should be able to work with it somehow.

Try different computers, try classic Mac, OSX Mac, try changing the name at the end to be ".psd", try copying it and trying to open that copy, try burning it to CD and seeing if you can open it up off of the CD, try a PC if you have one, try an older version of Photoshop.

Just a few options, try anything you can think of and if none of that works, then go back to the drawing board and start over.

We've all been there, so don't feel too bad.

Photoshop error...

Are you using Norton Antivirus?
There is a known bug between NAV and Photoshop where native PSD files will become corrupted even if they have opened and saved fine before. This bug does not happen all the time and it only happen to PSD files.
I had this happen to me last year on several files...it's a bummer.
If you do have NAV, get rid of it.

Good luck.

a dodgy workaround, if by some fluke the file is now an eps?

and i'm sure folks will tell me not to do this?but?

distill it?make a pdf?export pic and open in photoshop again

i've had to do this a couple of times with stuff but its always been grey/black images

there's loads of things to try?import it into quark?make a pdf?or illustrator?make a pdf and open in photoshop again

if not maybe graphic convertor might help. try running a disk doctor over the puter?might fix the file. if you ever open it?copy it and make a new document?just to see if it's a recurring problem. if not the new document is a winner.

good luck?

Make absolute sure that you have the right "extension" i.e. ".eps", ",tif" if not rename the file and try to open it again, or try to open it in a different app if it's a .tiff or .jpeg try to open it in "Picture Viewer" if none of these work you may be screwed, but move the file to a different machine and try it again..... there's always a work around

ps thank goodness for spell check.....

Same problem today!!!

I just found a possible workaround for ya - Try to open it in a different version of photoshop..

Had an ad - layers of art and some text saved as photoshop CS .PSD on Workstation #1 (with Norton on it)

Needed changes made to Ad by a different operator, Workstation #2 (without Norton on it), and PSCS2 would not open it, got same message about not being a valid layer

Used OPEN WITH menu, and it opened in Photoshop CS on the Workstation #2 machine, did a save as, and resaved, but still won't open in CS2

I have it working and ripping at this point, but everyone may want to watch for this! - MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!![/img]
