I think that's pretty much an old-school problem anymore. We used to have LZW issues (7 years ago) but newer RIPs should be able to handle it OK. I can't remember the last time we had an issue that was solved by removing LZW compression.

In our case LZW wasn't a RIP issue it was a Quark issue. Any time I found a .TIFF image from a customer that was LZW compressed Quark would "Hurl" when I tried to print to postscirpt. I had to open PS and re-save all the LZW files to non-LZW and re-import them into Quark before it would print to ps OK
As far as I'm concerned LZW was OK for transmitting over the web but throw it out when going to Print.
