doing a profile to profile conversion

Just wondering as I spent some time today manually cutting back the ink coverage on some photos.......

Does anyone have any luck using the profile to profile command in photoshop?

I used it a couple of times on non-critical jobs and it seemed to work ok. I converted to the standard u.s. prepress something or other. (forget the name).

Is it safe to use for good quality work? Had a job come in today with 380 percent ink coverage in some of the pictures and tweaked it manually.

the profile to profile works o.k., you get better results using "selective color". i found that the profile to profile comes in handy if your shop does a lot of work for advertising agencies. some ads will ship to multiple publications with different max density specs, and the profile to profile cut down on time and was easy enough to do that a "retoucher" did not have to do the work.

Yes that would work ok as long as you then convert back to your standard working space. I'll assume the image was untagged in the first place, so since whatever they gave you is nonsense, it's fine.
