barcode pro v6/Illustrator CS2

On Mac (OSX 10.4.6) and taking barcodes (in particular ITF SCC-14 frame) generated using BarcodePro V6 into Illustrator CS2 - either opening in Illustrator or placing as embedded image distorts the light margins between the frame and the bars. Placed as a linked image the barcode appears fine, but when you embed the code in the Links palette you can actually see the image distort. - Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

try viewing with overprint preview on before embedding and see if that really does change anything

overprint preview

Thanks for your help - when placed and linked with image appears fine. Turning on overprint preview has the same effect as embedding the image - the margins distort.
