Pagemaker 7 won't open file
I have a PM7 file, with embedded images that will not open. When I try to open the file, PM either crashes right away, or will open the file- stay open for about 10 seconds and then crash.
I have tried opening the file with InDesign CS3 and it screws everything up. Images are in the wrong places and the text reflows horribly even though I have all of the fonts.
Anyone have any suggestion? In the meantime, I am trying to get a PDF from the customer.

I guess you could either deactivate all fonts and see if it maybe a font coflict. I assume you've tried to open it on separate machines if you have that option?
Other option is to post the file and we can take a whack at it.

Also try setting the PageMaker prefs to not show images and then try to open it.

Try to open another PM7 doc (if you have one handy!) and confirm that it's this file and not the app?

Thanks for the tips...
Turning off the image previews sorta worked, it was open for about 30 seconds before PM crashed. Tried other machines, tried with fonts off, then on. The app isn't the problem, I can open other files, create new ones etc. Still waiting on the customer for something I can open though...
With all of the embedded images, I am thinking that since he ftp'd the damned thing unzipped, something went awry.

Good call, maybe they could post a PDF and make life easy again!

Have'em send a new file and while he's at it tell'em not to embed the graphics. Supply them.

Another option, gosh it hurts to try to think in OS9 terms, is to get info on the application and increase the memory allocation.

Wow! The old days of tweaking memory allocation, good memory Jalan! I think you need to work harder at trying to kill those pesky extra brain cells.
