Stuffit creating odd archives

All of our operators are responsible for creating their own Stuffit Archives of finished jobs. I collect them from our server and copy them to DVDs. Yes, I know, how primitive.

Lately I have noticed that some of the archives (one in twenty? One in fifty? who knows?) have been giving the message that "such and such is in use by another application and cannot be moved"

I have tried copying them off the server and then back on to "trick" the server, but this appears to be a corruption of the files.

Anybody got any ideas? Unstuffing and restuffing seems to work, but some of these archives are rather large, and I'd rather avoid this...

Oh, yes, and various versions of stuffit are used on various computers...

If you are running 10.4.6 or 10.4 - Stuffit 10.1 has been successful.

versions 7, 8 and 9 would not work and the free expander to these versions sometimes did and did not.

OS X - is also sensitive to file name lengths and special characters.

As far as stuffit, we are just using the "free expander" when necessary.

We mostly use OSX's archive function - it seems more stable than Stuffit,
and OSX's BOMArchive Helper to decompress.

we have a windows/barco server and mac and pc workstations.

we post lots of files via FTP and compress the files directly from the server.

is this what you are asking?

yep. Thanks.

I was betting it would work...but Windows seems hostile to some Mac operations in this environment.
