Corel Draw X3

Corel has a new version of the Draw Suite, just wondering if any of you dedicated Draw users have it yet... I will probably get it myself for at home... supposedly, according to their "product features" sheet they've fixed the pdf, spot color, and transparency issues that drive us prepress folks nuts.

if anyone does have it or possibly the trial version, could they post a test PDF file here so we can all put it through our prepress paces?

a test PDF file ideally should contain one of everything... text, using both kinds of font(embeded)... images, embeded and linked externally... drop shadows, transparencies, gradient fills (maximum number of shades), some things should overlap, use spot colors, etc... everything you can fit on an 8.5 x11 sheet... this will make a big file

something else I'd personally be interested in is an HTML file published from both Draw X3 and WordPerfect X3, I'd like to see how the resulting output matches the original document and what the code itself looks like, html code from version 12 was lots bulkier than it needed to be

I am one of the devotees of Coreldraw 12 having used each version since no.3.
However I tried the trial version of x3 and found that it is completely unstable and crashes constantly, so I've decided to stick with v12 until the bugs are fixed in future patches.
Illustrator still does the trace feature in x3 much better and I also have to admit that colour matching and control is far better in Indesign. I just wish Adobe would put in some of the quality imposition features that Coreldraw has.
Anyway, my verdict is this; Coreldraw 12 is superb and x3 will probably become my new favourite once all the bugs are removed. Until then I will use CS2 and Coreldraw 12.

One more wee niggle.....
Coreldraw 12 couldn't import pdf files from Indesign so I hope x3 has this sorted.

X3 for pre-press users bring not many but very important changes that makes it very good, but the problems are in bugs, it's true. I for example can't make my postcripts readeble in the RIP. Something is wrong in the file and i can't figure it out. The rest i find the X3 excellent.

I use the Version 12 as well. But just love the new features from X3. Use it since V.4

Regards,

Corel sp1

Corel have now introduced service pack 1 which goes a long way in fixing many of the bugs that should have been fixed prior to the initial release of X3.
It's much more stable and it's growing on me as far as its capabilities are concerned. I suspect another service pack is not too far away.

Hello again, thanks for everyones help. Problem solved. Delta Rip V6 works just fine with a Win NT4 Rev.6 it is now puting out my X3 work. As it turs out the problem was the in-rip core that X3 uses, wich is based on PS level 3. At least for the advanced features i was trying to pull out from the X3. Anyway what counts is that it is working now.

Thanks everyone,

LM

I still have not taken the x3 plunge, I notice there is a service pack 2 out now. When I tried the trial version after x3 first made it's debut, the pdf it created in the newest format still did not seem to layer properly. is this still the case after these service packs or has that been resolved (or was it just my system)? I noticed that there was a mention in the service pack documentation about better maintaining layers in PDFs but only for PDF acrobat 6
