Coreldraw 12

How about a Coreldraw 12 forum. There are a great many printers over here in the UK who use it in preference to Adobe etc. I know it's not used much in America but it is far superior to the other toytown programmes like Publisher that it's been unfairly grouped with here.
It is a great programme, much like Illustrator but with page layout and its imposition features for platemaking are superb and far better than other available 'offerings' Although earlier versions pre-version 11 were crap, version 12 is really good. Remember pagemaker? look at Indesign cs2 now!!

There is a free 30 day try out version available at corel.com for those not convinced.

I think Oddballs would be the place to talk about CDR Files...

can't imagine there is enough use out there to do a dedicated forum for it..

Also considering they dropped mac support a while back.

Like I said, Coreldraw is hardly used in America, but it is very popular over here in Scotland.
It is unfair to class it with publisher and all the other officey toytown crap doing its rounds as it is in every way a professional piece of kit. Many of the tools are also used in Illustrator and it more than holds its own with Indesign CS2. It's main feature for me is the superb built in imposition features.
And no you can't now get it for a Mac (before the apple crowd jump in), but our top spec pc's are excellent anyway. It's not the platform you use, but the software and how you use it.
Try the free trial version first before you knock it. Adobe isn't the be all and end all in the graphics world you know.
Commision? naw it's hard enough getting paid by my own customers.

'should have coreldrawed it'

I would assume that if this "Oddballs" topic had a larger volume of CorelDraw questions and comments that it would be a viable option. However, we have more posts on Publisher than we do on CorelDraw and we don't wish to have a Publisher only topic.
If you get more UK folks on here talking about it, I'd be happy to read about it in an Corel only topic, sounds like you need to recruit more people. That'd make Cory very happy I'm sure. :P

Adobe Illustrator = Heineken

CorelDraw = Milwaukee's Best

Thanks,

You can laugh, but on my list CorelDraw, any version is on top.

I am not using it much and we don't have many CorelDraw jobs, but people who know their way around it can produce some really good stuff far cheaper than anything Adobe.

The only "problem" is that Mac users are not exposed to it much as Windows users are and Mac version of Corel was never as good as Windows one

Most of the problems from CorelDraw are Windows GDI problems and interaction with Printer driver.

Corel was innovative company and they had tons of features such as live interactive transparency, etc.. years before anything Adobe.
Too bad politics drew the company down, but now it's private so we might see something, sometime from them, you never know.

I agree with your comments.

Beats me why so few people your side of the pond use Coreldraw. It's very popular here in the UK in both design shops and printers.

We'll use any good piece of kit that gets the job done and don't get bogged down by using Adobe just 'cause everyone else is using it at that time. Same goes with Corel over here as I use the CS2 suite as well.
