CorelDRAW to Illustrator
Hi all, I've been trying to figure this strange thing out. We sometimes get CorelDRAW files where I can actually open them directly into Illustrator CS and CS2. Sometimes, I can't do this. I don't see any common setting that makes this possible.
The reason I'm bringing this up is because of the clipart on the CDs supplied are all .cdr files and prefer to open them directly into Illustrator but it won't let me do it. The current process is to open them in Corel on the the PC, export as an Illustrator 7 file or an .eps, open them in Illustrator on the Mac and resave. It's quite a bit of a hassle.
Anybody know of a way to do this strictly on the Mac? :?:

Not here Jalan, I currently use the same method as you. I will watch this post closely as I would prefer an all Mac method too.

The best way is to save it down to 7... yes 7. It should be ok
if you have any other problems let me know. there are a few other tricks like exporting it as an eps

I think you misunderstood the post.
The goal was to achieve an all Mac approach, avoiding the PC overall. I believe your suggestion (if I understood you right) is exactly what was stated in Jalan's original post > open in Corel export out as .AI 7 or .EPS!

I you have time, could you post a link to some of these files and I could try a few tricks to see if I can open them on a Mac.
No promises, but it's worth a shot.

Jalan, I believe I've figured it out
I had a Corel 8 or 9 file and I could not open it on the PC for some reason. Ofcourse it had to be printed right away, so in an effort to get this job out I took it to my G5 10.3.9 & Illy CS > copied the file from server to desktop and highlighted the name. Changed the .cdr extension to .ai.
Poooof > it opened right up. The file contained all grades of sh*t, embedded images, gradients, text, etc. Everything worked fine on this one. All Mac no PC. Try it out guys and post back with your results.

I'd love to. Could somebody post a CorelDrawe file? I haven't seen
one in 2-3 years. I want to try it though. Every day that goes by is one
day closer to when I'll need a workaround for it.
TIA
