G5, Panther ? Auto shutdown-crash

Hello everybody,

We have G5's in da studio but one of them keeps crashing/auto shutdown call it what you will. It happens only as an intermitent problem and so we haven't stressed too much, but if someone knows why that would be koolio.

Thanks in advance, Mark

No specific advice, but repairing your permissions is a first step in OSX.

How do you repair permissions?

The programs have only been installed recently so I don't think it's a program problem but will keep an eye on it.

Thanks again.

Is it still under warranty? I'm thinking you've got a bad power supply.

Also check the circuit, outlet that you have it plugged into. That could be a problem.

To repair permissions, go to the Disk Utillity in the Applications/Utilities folder. There is a tab in that app for checking and repairing permissions.

Can you hear the fans running before shutdown? Overheating can also cause it to shutdown.
