We had a similar problem in one of our offices awhile back. It turned out that the Mac didn’t have “Big Drive” support. This will be a problem for any pre-Quicksilver models. Have you tried installing a smaller drive? If I remember correctly our user had to use a drive that was 80GB or smaller.

I just checked Mactracker and it looks like the cut-off point is 128 GB. (makes sense, I guess, since that would be 2^7).

It doesn't seem to be possible to Partition 'over' the 128 limit either. It will result in a hang when you try and access anything over that limit.

I'm digging for the link, to proper tech info.
