yeah, when you're in column view, you'll see a little doodad (three lines grouped together at the bottom of one of the columns), hold down the option key and and click on the doodad, slide that little baby left or right and all the columns will change size.

I think that's what you're asking for,
David

Thanks, David! I figured I wasn't going to learn anything new today. Wrong!

In OS X 10.4 at least, in the Finder and in Cocoa Open/Save dialogs, you can also double-click on a column grab handle to have that column width automatically resized to accommodate the widest item. Option-double click will apply this to all column widths. (Note that one column with a really large width will tend to throw the rest of them off, unfortunately). In Cocoa Open and Save dialogs, you can also Control-click (or right-click) on the grab handle and choose from the following:

Right Size This Column
Right Size All Columns Individually
Right Size All Columns Equally

Unfortunately, this double-click capability isn't yet available in Navigation Services, which is what Carbon-based applications (read: all your design apps) use for Open and Save dialogs.

Hope this helps...
