burning disks_Mac OS 10.2.8

Having a problem with Mac OS 10.2.8. We have been burning discs from this machine for two years. Now all of a sudden we can't.
Looks like it's the new disks or cd speed; where do you see the disk speed for a computer?
new disks are hp invent dvd+r 16x, old disks are dvd-r 8x.

Thats the problem, you need DVD-R not DVD+R.

I would get 8 not 16. It may not matter if you're only burning data not video.
