Disk Utility acting up
I was having trouble with my Acrobat starting up this morning after trashing an Acrobat 6 pref. and then upon a restart the finder wouldnt start up.. So I tried the disk utility on the install disk and was attempting to repair permissions but it keep halting half way through and telling me that it was losing connection to Disk Management Tool.. what is going on there??.. my Mac and Acrobat is back up and working fine but I dont understand.. I was never able to "finish" running the repair disk permissions. Can anyone help me understand this??.. Thanks

Try using disk utility from your hardrive not the CD. It should already be loaded.

It was able to finish when run from the HD disk utility, but that still doesnt help me understand why it would lose connection with the disc management tool when run from the CD and what was going on there.. Thanks Jim, at least my permissions got corrected. The Mac seems to be running right now, it was just acting REALLY strange a few hours ago.. which is what led me to trying to repair permissions, I had already wiped all the caches, and it still was really struggling to start the Finder on boot up... :? I dunno, as long as I can get some work done now, and get outta here cause its FRIDAY, I'm happy/ Thanks again/

Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
(Don't use the version located on your installer CD-ROM, it does not use the receipt files located on your hard drive to properly set permissions for updated software.)
See: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 for more info about receipts under OS X.

Thanks Joe, that helped me understand better what its doing, but still doesnt answer why it wouldnt run from the CD.. I would think it would still be able to perform the process from the CD and check the .pkg and .bom files and either verify or repair them, instead of stalling out half way through.. does it just not run from the CD if it is already installed on the HD??... if so, what if I wasnt able to get booted to where I could use the disc utility on the HD, would the CD work then?

Run Disk Repair from the CD.
Run Repair Permissions from the HD.
Better yet...use Applejack.
