Force Quitting Spotlight OS10.4.4

Went searching for a .txt file yesterday on our server.

5 minutes later, still searching.

Force Quit Spotlight - 8O blew up the "finder".

Had to reinstall OS (and it worked).

Thought I'd pass this info along.

interesting... Spotlight seems to use allot of resource or just be a bit klunky. It runs amazingly on g5's but my experience with a quicksilver g4 was constant lockups like that, but it never killed the finder.

You cant use spotlight to search on servers... it doesnt work. It sucks! I know you can rig it index the server but it didnt work very well when I did that on our linux server. Maybe it works better on a server running 10.4?
