Mixed up fonts and Mac OS X?

Is anyone else having problems with fonts losing its structural order? What I mean is that the fonts seem to become "mixed up". The "A" is no longer an A and so forth. This varies from computer to computer that runs under OS X. The font will read properly on one machine but not the other. Can anyone shed some light? In the meantime I will do further research.

Thanks in advance!

hmmm.... I noticed that too.

I wonder if it has something to do with the many font locations you have in OS X ( i.e, user, shared, system etc.)?

I found this help on another forum:

First buy/run fontdoctor on your fonts. This will help you fix common
font problems. In addition, clear all system font caches (per
instructions below) and restart afterwards.

/Library/Caches
/System/Library/Caches
/Users/"your user name"/Library/Caches

In the above folders you will find your font caches, delete anything
that contains "fCache", "font", or ".FODB"

This has been helpful, however, clearing the font caches has to be done on a regular basis.

I've had the same problem. I run Adobe Garamond on my OS9 platform. Bring it into X and it goes nuts. Exact same PS type 1. All the characters go screwy. Tried packing for service provider and moving it over to the OSX platform. Still went screwy. Opened the font in Fontographer, saved a fresh version, it runs perfectly? 8O

I recommend DeepSix for clearing out font cache files. For me it has been extremely helpful and saved me some aggravation. Check it out at

There's also Font Cache Cleaner, a freebie on VersionTracker that automates the procedure. It works great:
