Copying my old system Hard-drive to compressed Disk Image

I just bought a brand new G5 and just finished migrating from my old one. Now since i do work on that machine, I want to make sure i don't lose anything. I want to make a compressed DMG of my old disk ( use minimal disk space ) on an external terabyte Disk i have.

I tried Disk Utility but at the end i get an error -39.

I wanted to try SuperDuper but it want to erase the disk I'm copying to
and I got some files already their.

Last I tried to use Carbon Copy Cloner but it just not that expressive on what its going to do. So wen it says "Make Disk Image" will it make an image of my old disk ? or will it erase and copy like SuperDuper wants to ?

Any one got a better Idea ?

If possible i want to keep it bootable.

TIA for the help
