Background Printing

Hi,
My company is currently using an older Screen Imagesetter DT-R3075. We are going through a Screen AD-310PM rip. My computer is running Jaguar but I still run most of my film out through my Classic(os9) programs due to driver problems with X.

My problem is I do not have the option of background printing. I am using the PSPrinter driver as all others I have tried have caused banding in my film.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations to get my system running more efficiently?

I know buying new equipment would help, but that is not gonna happen any time soon.

thanks

Firstly "Mac Help" under the "Help menu is great, check it out.

Make sure you have active in your "Extensions" under "Extensions Manager" these two extensions "Desktop Printer Spooler" & "Desktop PrintMonitor" if they are not there look for them under "Disabled Extensions" and move them to "Extensions" open up "Extensions Manager" and make them active and restart your computer. It should create "desktop printers" for you. So now when you go to print somthing in say Quark, click "Printer" and under "general "Background Printing" should be available.

What kind of Printer problems are you having in OSX?

I tried that, no such luck. If I use the Laserwriter 8 or AdobePS in the chooser, my Print Monitor comes up but come out with large transparent bands in the film. The only driver that works without bands is PSPrinter, which has the background printing selection grayed out.

Screen did not make an OSX driver for our old imagesetter. I did find a driver by another company that works for our imagesetter. It works great for InDesign, but not so good for Quark 6 or Freehand.

I don't get a lot of time to research so I have just been doing what works for now.

Thanks
