I know fonts can slow a system down whether its just to many open, trying to move them or deleting them. I was brought up in a DTP environment that had about 20 work stations and ran 3 full shifts. Our Managers at that time insisted on keeping a "Master" set of fonts on the server and copied a set to each and every work station. If any new or "customer fonts" were used then they were temporarily added to the folder and "cleaned off" at the end of the work day. I have since used this method at my current work place and insist all my work stations (4) use this method. Having 5-800 mb of fonts on a HD is really nothing, and as long as I maintain the "same" fonts thorughout, there are no problems, and no slow downs.
This is a situation I often see in these forums and wonder why everyone insists on opening fonts "across the network" why not just maintain the same current fonts on all the HDs? Am I missing something? I have a separate partition on my HD og 1gb that holds 500mb of postscript and opentype fonts and an additional 250mb of True Type fonts (I try not to use) And control everything with Suitcase X
