PS filesize limit in Quark 6 in OS X

I was wondering

Has anyone come across the problem of creating a print to file in QX 6 on os x.

When the PS file exceeds 2 gb OS X fail to create the PS file.

Had anyone come across this before?

Yep tis huge

Yep, tis huge .........

Input files loads of images on page from bathroom fitments
50+ per page and all the images are roughly between 1200 and 3000 dpi.

What .......... yes but they are re-used for a large amount of other applications.
All the images are sampled at high res

I know and yep it get even bigger in Indesign and works......

Regards

John

Personally I think it's a case of abused resolution. there is no reason to have an image resolution bigger than 2x the output lpi, the RIP just ignores it anyway and throws it out. Try res and scale the images to 100% first. (unless the image is a line or bitmapped image, then resolution as high as the output device is recommended).

the largest .ps I ever created was 350mb that was a 32 pager 4/Color with a spot tint background.

Afterthought, if it must be then create the .ps in sections a few pages at a time.

Huuuggggeee Files

Yep, if you go over 2gig on a file, it won't make the ps.

I do two things. Hopefully, if you're using tiffs, turn off the "full resolution tiff output" in options dialog in quark. Otherwise, I print in sections.

We use brisque here, and one thing we do here that works is this. If it's a 24 pager, we'll build the document and save. Then save 2 working files. Iin the first one, we'll delete everyothing on pages 13-24. In the second one we'll delete everything on pages 1-12.

Now, make sure that your "print blank pages" is on. Postscript 2 24 page documents and rip them. Then put the 12 pages from 1 into the 12 pages of the other and you've got a 24 page .job.

It works for the monsters.

Dave

Try using OPI. Then map the high res at the Brisque.

Could it be related to PPD or PS driver?

Just guessing here as I made several 2Gb and higher PS files but it was always Illustrator and PC not Mac so I don't really know.

What I know is even if you make 2 Gb or larger PS file it won't work on Brisque.
AIX, at least old version that runs on our Brisques version 4 does not support file size larger than 2 Gb.
Maybe they incorporated this into PPD that limits it??

Why would you have images at 1200 and 3000 dpi? Are you talking about color photos? If so, that's way more than you need.

Hi John,

Is the whole job 2Gig, or can you output single page or several pages at a time. Then just combine them afterwards in PDF format.
