Character Palette

I had grown use to useing the Character Palette, but some time ago, for no apparent reason (no updates or meddling) it ceased to work. When I select Show Character Palette, it comes up spinning only to quickly disappear and here after occasionally reapears still spinning and disapears again.

This problem persists after updates and clearing all fonts off. I'm not sure where to even look for the problem and it appears that I'm the only one who has this problem. Any suggestions?

The character Palette is located in system Preferences/International/Input menu. You can select it to appear in the input menu or not. If you have to many languages selected it might take awhile to appear. Have you repaired your Permissions lately

It sounds like what's happening is that the Character Palette Server is attempting to launch but immediately crashing. Subsequent attempts to re-launch it are also failing because it immediately crashes.

The preference file that's associated with the Character Palette is (where '~' stands for your short username):

/Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist

You might try moving that file to the Desktop to disable it and then try relaunching the Character Palette.

If that doesn't seem to work, look for a "crash.log" file in the /Users/~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ folder, probably with a name of CharacterPaletteServer.crash.log (not certain, as I don't have one on my machine.) Anyway, double-click that to open it in the Console application and post the contents of it here (just for the most recent crash) in another post, and I'll see if I can make any sense of it.

Hope this helps...

It's fixed. Preferences problem. It's always the .plist.

Thanks for the help.
