Auto mounting at startup?
I know that I've read and tried at least 3 times to get a utility or script of some kind to automount my network and have had no luck - the G4 on OS9 works and prompts for a login on 2 drives and maps to 5 different locations on them. However, My OSX G5 will not, I can connect by using the IP address, or finder window but it's kinda a pain... What are you all using, and is anyone still having this trouble like me?

If you're referring to auto-mounting other machines on your network, I've never done that. I just found it was problematic if one of the drives wasn't on, or power-failed ...
Using Finder to connect is definitely a pain. I actually set up my own system this week. I have about 12 computers I need to connect to. Sometimes only a couple a day, sometimes all of them. I created a folder on my desktop called GROUPS. I dropped this folder on the dock (to the right of the separator). I logged into "Mark's HD" (for example). After putting in the name and password, go to Options and check "Add password to Keychain". Drag the icon to the GROUPS folder. Repeat for all the servers you want to be able to access. Whenever you need to access another unit on the network, click on the GROUPS folder, click on the server name. You can rename each of the servers within the folder if you want (for your own organizational purposes).

the way I do it is a little odd, but it's worked great for over 2 years....
I use Internet location files to do this...
go into safari and type this in
afp://username assword@ipaddyofserver/sharename
substitute all the variables there, don't hit return...
once it looks good to you, grab the globe icon in the location bar and drag it to your desktop...
then add that file as a startup item.

Thanks for both of your help!
The 1st suggestion is what I am currently using, minor folder name changes, but exactly same setup
the 2nd suggestion about entering address into the safari bar, I'v tried multiple times, and will work when I'm connected already (it opens the network share that I want) but it will not work on startup - gives me a message about not connecting to drive.
Thanks for taking time to reply to me though - I just thought that maybe I was doing something wrong, looks as though Apple has just changed it and left us no instructions on how to "Work Around" - Thanks All

I'm using a little utility called Autologin, was distributed by Gideon Softworks, although I don't see it on their site any more. Not sure if it's compatible with anything past 10.2.8, so maybe they removed it. :?
I put it in my uploads if you'd like to try it though.

I use an Applescript that I put into my startup options and it works great. It connects 7 different shares at bootup and if it they aren't available it just times out after 2 minutes, unlike the OS9 chooser that would lock up the machine forever. I wouldn't do without it.

Mount the server manually - ie. connect to server - but make sure you add your password to the keychain, then go to system preferences> accounts> startup items and drag the icon from the desktop into the window.
Next boot you will see the shared server open up.
Works for me on the four shares i mount from our windows2000 servers.

still nothing
I tried the AutoLogin Utility mentioned above, and still not connecting, I also have connected, and included my password in the keychain, will connect right away, if I click on the shortcut that I made, but I want it to be in the sidebar of finder when I login....soooo frustrating, what am I doing wrong or missing?
When you look into Network, does it show as shortcuts in yours, that's all i can see, unless I go to the workgroup and then I get a login like the Connect button gives you.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions

OK i am now convinced there is some sort of bug.
I have just been updating to a new G5 dual 1.8 box (drool) and it refuses to mount the servers on startup up like my trusty G4 did before it.
Exact same configuration and exact same level of security updates.
Go figure.....
Works fine from the shortcuts placed in the dock though.
I will attempt to find out why.
