Panther not seeing OpenType font

A client gave us his work and included a copy of Adobe Jenson Pro (opentype font). There was something like 40 different type faces in that folder.

No matter what I try, I can't get 10.3.5 to see the font! Fontbook, Illustrator CS, Photoshop 7, Quark 6.1.... nothing will see it. I think Jenson Pro is installed with InDesign CS but we don't have that. Fontbook will allow me to select the font to put it in a group but then does nothing when i click ok. Double-clicking the font opens fontbook and that's it.... the app acts as if I have opened it normally.

I tried font cache cleaner, removing all fonts from the OS 9 system folder, ~/library/fonts and /library/fonts but nothing worked.

Other opentype fonts (carlson pro, garamond pro) were already installed and seem to work just fine. I even tried putting Jenson pro into application support/adobe/fonts but that didn't help.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks

Are you certain it's a font file? You could try downloading and running this
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22795
it has been know to fix problems like you are having. If you want to post a link I'd be glad to look at the font file and see if I can find a problem.

almaink,

I've seen your other replies.... font cache cleaner was the first thing I tried

The icon is right, the extension is right so I assume it's a font. Anything like resedit on OS X so I can actually see if the data inside those files are consistent with a font?

Someone has sent me a copy of the font incase the one we got was hosed. If that doesn't work, I'll try and get you a copy of that file on wednesday (I'm not at work today).

Thanks

Open Type Fonts can't be used in OS 9.

Do you have access to any other font manager than Font Book? I still maintain that Font Book really isn't ready for the pros (mostly because I don't believe it's wise to use 1.x software in a live production environment *and* the world I've gotten from the Apple underground is that Font Book is a consumer-level product).

I'd download a demo of FontAgent (you can get a 30 day trial) and see if the font works. I'd say try Suitcase, but I'm having major issues with Suitase right now. But when I worked with the FontAgent demo, it worked like a dream.

If the problem happens with a 3rd party font manager, then the font may be corrupt. Have you tried asking for the font from the client?

Hope this helps.

Indesign can use them and so can any other app they work just like TT fonts. Only ID can access the extra glyphs though.

You may also want to remove all AdobeFnt.#st files from all font folder.

I stand corrected. I forgot InDesign works in 9. ops:

I also killed my adobe font caches, but this is because of another font problem.
