OS X dead

I have a Titanium laptop (867 MHz, 768MB RAM) that has OS 9 & 10 on it. I plugged in a developer's firewire drive while the laptop was on and it found the drive and I was able to copy things off it. He had a folder on it that I couldn't get to because of permissions. We shut down my laptop and removed his hard drive so he could have it back. When we did this, OS X started to boot and stopped partway with horizontal "scan lines" throughout the middle of the screen. We couldn't boot OS X or from OS X CD, but we could boot into OS 9. We finally got it booting from CD and reinstalled OS X. Has anybody else had anything remotely like this with Firewire devices?

Thanks,
Bil

I've always had great luck with FW drives and OS X (os9 tends to be a little buggy for me).

not sure what would have caused your problems. was your machine totally shut off before disconnecting the FW drive?

Yes, my machine was turned off before I unplugged it. Call me crazy, but I still live by the old SCSI rules when it comes to connecting drives.
