G4 Video Cards

This isn't the right forum but there isn't a hardware forum so I figured this was the closest thing. Anyway, here's my problem. We bought a 19 Inch NEC Accusync 900 monitor about a month ago. I jacked up the resolution to take a screen shot of a web page and the monitor went blank and NEVER came back. i posted here and was told to hit the pram, etc but it never worked. So we sent the old monitor back and got a new one. It still doesn't work. We've decided it has to be the video card. I know nothing about them. This monitor works on a PC and a smaller monitor works on the G4. According to my system profiler my display card is ATI RagePs & ATI Rage 128Pro. Would these affect the monitors peformance? It seems to me that my G4 is not communicating correctly with this monitor and it did at one point, before i jacked up the res. Any ideas? Comments? Thanks so much

Hve you tried Apple's K-Base? http://www.apple.com/support/ and forums http://discussions.info.apple.com/ ?

I know Apple's techs usually lurk about the discussion forums, and someone might have covered this.

The only thing I can think of is either re-installing the video drivers, or re-installing the system, (or restoring it) and bring it back to it's factory default setting.

Good luck.

Did you try resetting open firmware.
Openfirmware reset:

Reboot holding down these until you get a white screen with OK on it: command option o f

type: reset-nvram including the dash

press return to see OK

type: set-defaults including the dash

press return to see OK

type: reset-all including the dash

press return and the computer should reboot on its own, if it doesn't then type---- macboot

Never heard of that card going bad but, you never know.

It doesn't matter what OS you are running. Openfirmware is what runs the Mac itself ie.. it keps track of and controls the hardware connected to the Mac. Give it a try it's worth a shot.

Glad you got that sucker going. If you ever have issues with the video or CD or any hardware component do the "openfirmware reset". Sounds like a dance step, don't it?

I'm lucky that my husband is ICS for the Apple store near me (and I have Pro Care), so I get to pester the Mac Genii if I do stuff like this.

I need it because I'm still uncertain about how OS X ticks, and it's been too long since I've worked in OS 9.
