Satellite Internet

I live out in the country where high speed internet is not an option. We have been looking at the satellite companies that offer high speed. Anyone have any experience with this?

We used it for a short time before DSL became available. Works great if that's the best you can get. Much better than dialup. :lol:

I have Starband. I am hoping to have DSL available out here within the next 10 years, maybe a Cable modem within 15....

Starband is pricey, it cost about $1200 for the equipment and install, $89 a month for the first year, $79 a month for the second year, then $69 from there on out. But, at the time, it was a lot faster than the other 2 or 3 to choose from (especially upload speed).

I am seeing advertisements on DirecTV about their new service that doesn't need a telephone connection for the uploads, it is much more affordable. I would check something like that out before I would invest a bunch of money.

oh yeah, you might want to compare BANDWIDTH RESTRICTIONS more than speed. If you have any alternative to satellite for high speed, go with that. They all have BANDWIDTH RESTRICTIONS that are meant to make sure you don't spend more than an hour a day on YouTube, or play any online games (actually you won't want to play online, the lag is too much).

Damn tbJAMMIN, I've been to your area a few times (Sarasota) and can't believe you guys don't have DSL yet. Seems to me the market for it should be good in your area.

I have a pretty long commute (71 miles each way). A small price to pay for 10 acres out in the country.....

By the way, I love my Sirius satellite radio.
