The Epson 850Ne I bought with my G3 8 years ago still kicks butt color wise, but I got tired of replacing ink cartridges, so I waited for the prices to drop and picked myself a Brother HL2070N B/W Laser (better quality than inkjet) network ready (ethernet) and has worked beautifully for over a year now. A work horse for simple 8.5 x 11 b/w output for under $100 8O 8O
my 2¢

Thanks guys, I hadn't considered a Laser, nice tip Sparky, looks like I gotta pick one up today, I'll Google all suggested printers and then see what I find.
I should have thought a little further ahead having only just bought a scanner, maybe a multifunction device would have been adequate... Doh!

I bought the cheapest little HP inkjet , a deskjet 5400 series (about 100 bucks) and have been getting great prints out ot it. Still using the original inks.......my previous Epson seemed to drink ink while I was sleeping (so it seems).
Anyway, I've had the original ink carts in it for a year and although I don't print out a lot, it seems to me that they've lasted a real long time.

I have an HP Photosmart 2710. Printer, Fax and Scanner with integrated WIFI. I had a older version that broke, still under waranty and HP sent me this to replace it. I can not complain, works well. I go through ink allot but I have three kids at home that are all in college so they use it to death.
Regards,
Mark

We bought an Epson R1800 and it's been fantastic for photos. We use a tektronix 7700 for the basic color output (and the kids' projects).
Your price per page with a color lasr is quite a bit less. If you're willing to look at used devices the Tektronics printers are a great steal IMO.

OK, now that you mention it,
My HP... forgot model#, is a scanner, copier and printer and works very well. And, as opposed to some other models I've had, it doesn't mind being powered down for weeks at a time then printing - love it.
